dreamcatchings: (misc: once upon a time)
It's another weekend full of baking for me. So far I've made Casatiello bread, which takes about 6 hours and thusly should never, ever be started at 9pm. Next time I make it I'll endeavor to remember that. I am currently baking a New York style cheesecake, which is hugely tall and has to be left in the oven for five hours after its cooking time of one hour ends. Tomorrow or tonight I have plans to make gumbo as lunch for the upcoming work week.

I need to figure out plans for this week's breakfasts, but I might just eat the Special K meal bars I bought. I meant to get more of the protein shakes, but I forgot them each time I went to the store.

I've been trying to get my ebooks in order. It's a much larger endeavor than I ever would have imagined, but it really needs to be done so I can easily locate things and stop adding the same files to Calibre over and over again. That gets annoying because then I have to go through and update the book information anyway. Grrrr.

Nothing much happening. I'm ready for winter to be over any minute now because the threat of snow and ice is getting totally old. I should move somewhere warmer. I just hate moving.

Looking outside is risking going snowblind as far as I'm concerned. There's all the snow and then the bright, bright sun glinting off it so that the whole world turns sparkling, glittering and just radiating white so much that it makes your eyes hurt. Even through the blinds it makes my eyes hurt to look at it. It's pretty so long as you don't have to go outside ion it. Once you set a foot outside you start to realize the deadly seriousness of it all. Snow and ice and cold, cold temperatures all combine to form a sort of alliance against warm life. I don't mind so awful much not being able to go out over the weekend, but it does get tiresome. I mean, I suppose I could go out. It's probably drivable, but I don't feel like bothering until I have to. I have food and chores to do. I have ample amounts of things to do, but I'm not doing them. It gets cold, and I tend to just stay on the couch, huddled under blankets and watching the telly with spurts of laundry or baking to break up the monotony. It doesn't help that the cold makes my hands hurt more so I tend to shy away from crochet and things of that nature, though I do have a dragon I need to finish up. I've run into a bit of a snag with the pattern where the tail is looking disproportionate to the body so I'm not sure about how it's all going to fit together.

Thankfully the upstairs neighbors have turned down Mamma Mia so I no longer have to listen to the strains of ABBA drifting through the ceiling at me.

I know, I know. Random updates. I've been verbose lately. It's likely better than when I go for long spans without saying anything at all, though, yes?

Here comes the snow. When I woke up I was a little disappointed with the news forecasters because there was just a light dusting over things. Now, though, the flakes they are a-coming. I am glad that this storm didn't occur until I was off. Woo! I won't have to call in or stress myself out over driving in it.

Things I'm planning to cook this weekend:

  • chocolate chip sweet rolls
  • eggnog
  • queso
  • Asian chicken and steamed veg

That's the plan anyway. I may end up making some bread, too. We'll see. I tend to make bread and then not really eat it. Add to that the fat that I'm been eating Special K cereal for dinners when I get home after work and Special K protein drinks for breakfast during the work week and then likely ruin the good strides over my weekend when I want to play and try new things. The thing I'm most looking forward to? Using my dutch oven for the first time. The sweet roll recipe calls to make the dough in the dutch oven. Yay!

I need a cooking/baking icon stat! Or if I can't find a good one, I might need something from Pushing Daisies.

Glamourkin of the Day: Within these walls, wonder

I have a lot of things to accomplish today. Tomorrow I'm going over to my mother's to do stuff for her birthday so that takes most of the day out for getting things accomplished.

List:

  • Make cheese bread
  • Laundry
  • Trash
  • Make Oreo cheesecake bars
  • Make calzone dough
  • and then calzones
  • Dishes
  • Target
  • Post office
  • Bank

There's still snow on the ground and some ice on the roads, which means I need to do all the running around outside before night falls, the sun goes away and temperature plummet. I swear that I need to move somewhere warmer or somewhere with better public transportation pronto. I don't mind the cold, but I hate driving in the snow/ice/slush crap.

Oh. Argh.

So I'm snowed in. Again. (This shite really needs to stop before I use all my sick time at work because I don't feel like dying on icy/snowy roads that Indiana doesn't clear.)

Olympics Pairs Play by Play with Spoilers (Kinda) and Ranting (Mostly) )

Okay. That's done. I suppose I should get something done around here like cleaning and bread making since I can't get to work.

I have come to the conclusion that people confuse me. Not all people and not in every situation. There are actually quite a few instances where I am pretty astute and observant about people. A lot of the time though. Confused. It might not be there fault. Perhaps it's mine. I do have the tendency to take things in a way they weren't meant, which can make entire situations confusing and awkward. Nothing to linger on, I suppose.

In other news, it snowed. I attempted to get to work, but the roads were bad so I gave in and called in. And then lost control the car briefly when trying to get home. Nothing happened. The car just slid all over the road. I didn't hit anything or hurt anything, but it wasn't pleasant and it freaked me the fuck out.

So. Yeah. Home now.

I'm going to make crepes and maybe watch some Red Dwarf.

Fuck fuck fuck.

I'm snowed in. My complex never plows so I could possibly get out of my parking lot but the roads apparently aren't much better. Plus they're calling for more snow/sleet/freezing rain today and tonight.

So I called in. Which puts me at just enough occurrences where I can't get a bonus for three months.

Fuck fuck fuck.

I'm going to watch X-Files and try not to mope too much.

I am pretty much snowed in. Nothing has been done to the apartment complex parking lot, and I'm not sure my car could get over the snowdrift behind it to get out. Luckily, I don't really need to leave for anything.

Ho-hum. Another lazy day.

ETA: Does anyone have any eps or links to X-Men Evolution that they can send me? I need to watch more of the series if I'm going to app Lance. Please.

Snow is stupid. I called in.

Hopefully, I can get some cleaning and packing things up done. Also, it's now up to you lot to entertain me as I'm probably going to be snowed in all weekend.
dreamcatchings: (pissed off)
It's snowing. I am really not happy with this. We're supposed to be around four inches over the course of today and tonight. I work half an hour away. I would need interstates and bridges and right now they haven't even cleared the apartment complex parking lot. I could get to work. Potentially. I just don't know how easy it will be to get home when I leave work at 10:30pm tonight. Work, of course, it all: schedules as normal.

Argh.

I'm better than last night. Really. I'm just going to be melodramatic and stupid for awhile.
dreamcatchings: (pissed off)
My car looks to be encased in ice. Actually, it looks like everything outside in encased in ice. Yesterday, it took me an hour and a half to get home because of the rush hour traffic and the snow. I'm supposed to go in at 9am today. Judging from what's out the window, I'm not sure I can get out of my apartment complex parking lot much less all the way over to Louisville. And with this being just the second day of my temporary position in the new building, I have zero contact information for anyone over there to inform them of the possibility that I might be late.

Fucking lovely.

Thunderstorms abound. Whee.

I, however, have long ceased turning my computer off during storms. One reason for this is because even if it's turned off lightning, being the bitch that it is, can still zap you. Even if you unplug it. I know. I work in a computer store. I've seen.

That and I'm lazy.

So if it's still storming when I get home, I'll be on. Because, well, the storms make the Dish go out while the wireless is still going strong.
