Real update to come later.
For now, though, I saw this on
mizzmarvel's journal and thought I'd play, too.
In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.). The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

Treat
Paige is always a little separate, distant. The hesitancy isn't new. Sam remembers it from when she was younger and small, tucked into a corner, giant book balanced on her thin knees, reading. Always reading. As though all those words, all those pages could carry her away somewhere.
He knows that they would've if things hadn't become what they did. Mutant or not, Paige would have gotten herself outta Kentucky, away from home and the hills and the coal and everything. Away from their dead daddy and broken brother and everything.
Sam used to think she resented the rest of them, but he's knows better now. It took him a while. He's not as fast on the uptake as she is, after all. He gets it now, though. She's spent so long looking forward, reaching for the future, that she's not sure how to look back, how to be home.
He's not sure how to fix it, how to reassure her that she's fine. They're all fine. They love her no matter where she is or what she's doing or if she leaves them behind in leaps and bounds. Sam doesn't know how to say all that to her. So he just loves her and musses her hair and makes sure to include her. And hopes it's enough.
