What could I tell her? That that was the whole point of having long hair? To keep it in my face? Maybe I didn't look like Dorothy Hamill. Maybe I was even starting to bear a strong resemblance to our weeping willow trees. But there were virtues to my hair. It covered tinsel teeth. It covered satyrical nose. It hid blemishes and, best of all, it hid me. Cut my hair? Never! I was growing it out. My dream was to someday live in it."
This was me during most of high school (save the tragic short hair incident) and some of college. Hiding in my hair because I thought it sheltered me from the world.
I hgihly recommend this book. Not done with it yet but so good.
