I got up today and checked the leak. Still bad and getting worse. I'm not sure what it is. It might be the lines to the air conditioner itself because nothing seems to be affecting the rest of the water supply and that's the only area with any water damage. The walls are soaked, the floor is soaked, it's running out from that compartment and into the hall because the carpet is wet in some areas, and the ceiling part is starting to come down in there.

I called the office number again or, at least, what I assume to be the office number as the other number listed on the sheet is disconnected. So I call it. No answer. But there is a message with an emergency maintenance number. I call that and leave a message. The guy calls me back to tell me it's the wrong number. It's the number from the old service that used to own the apartment complex.

No longer feeling optimistic about my contact information, I go back to my sheet and try another number, this one an emergency contact pager. It's been years since I called anyone with a pager. Since, like, high school considering the fact that no one I currently know is a doctor or a drug dealer. I'm giving the pager call an hour and then I have another number to try.

If that one doesn't work, the only other thing I can think to do is try one of the 1-800 number for the main apartment complex that I found on the internet.

Christ. That needs to get fixed stat, and if it's going to take them a long time they need to relocate you to another apartment as the mold can be terrible and sometimes deadly. Take no prisoners, sara! I have faith in you!

And the suck continues. There is apparently no emergency maintenance number anymore. Or, if there is, no one has it. Fun fun.

That's a huge problem. Give them hell tomorrow when you talk to them. That's why you pay rent.

You want to know the best thing? No one's in the office tomorrow. What a joke, huh?

Yeah that's just priceless. I would make some serious demands when you get someone, and then if they don't meet them, break your lease and move. At this point any court would see why you would have done such a thing. There are terms in your lease that specify what they are accountable for...use that against them, it's a legally binding contract.

I don't have a lease anymore. It switched from a lease to a month to month contract back in October. I guess that's a good thing as far as me moving goes.

Oh, well I would start looking stat then, you're not totally at their mercy, and in your old lease it will spell out what month to month means...they still need to hold up their end of everything in the original lease. Good Luck!
