I'm not going to post the meme in and of itself because, um, I'm sort of shite at asking people questions about themselves. I'm more the type who just sits quietly and waits for you to speak in your own time. Once you do I'm there to stroke your hair or pat your should or tell you it'll be okay. Then I'll find something goofy to do to make you smile.
I am finally getting around to posting answers to the questions that
wanderlustlover gave me though.
1. Write your memoir in six words.
Never good enough but always trying.
2. What are you most proud of learning from your childhood?
That there are other worlds then this. There are worlds where people don't leave. They are always there, waiting for you. There are worlds where all the sadness and pain is beautiful. Everything is beautiful even when it's full of misery. There are fairies, unicorns, princes and knights. There are flawed and tragic people. There is neverending love. There are people wiling to listen and people willing to speak. There are people willing to die for very simply, good things. There is evil but it is balanced. Even flawed characters can be loved. I learned that I was not alone. I learned to have a love affair with books that knows no bounds, that even when we bicker and walk away from each other I can always return to them. They will always wrap their arms around me, invite me in and tell me a story. They will never die. They will never leave. They will offer a constant love and escape.
3. How do you plan to spend your Christmas this year?
I have no plans for Christmas. Assuming I'm still in Indiana, I'll try to get it off work and likely go over to my mother's. If I'm not in Indiana, I will hopefully be in North Carolina and
kcauac will be there too and will let me spend it with her. Christmas has never been a big holiday for me.
4. What do consider to be the most important trait in a person?
I would have to say tolerance. There are lots of traits that are important but tolerance covers most of what I find myself most drawn in people. I like people who are tolerant of other ideas, religions, viewpoints, musical taste, sexual preference, political leanings, food choices, etc. that are different from their own. I am drawn to all sorts of people from the entire spectrum but the ones I like the most, the ones I share the most with, tend to be the ones who are the most open to differences. I can't understand building yourself a whole set of convictions about something and not being able to if not accept then at least listen to another viewpoint. This might have a little something to do with my being a Libra. I do love balance. I hate extremes. I live in a middle ground whenever I can because it makes me more at ease.
5. Who is your favorite musical artist at present? Why?
It's hard to me to even pick a single favorite of anything. I have a hard time making decisions for one. For another I surround myself with music as surely as I surround myself with pretty, shiny things. I am a collector. I currently have over 100GBs of music on my HDD. I have favorites obviously, but I have never ever been able to narrow myself to one. Not one movie, not one artist, not one book, not one author. The only thing I have ever been able to say was my utter absolute favorite was comic book character.
I am always in love with Duncan Sheik's music. Some of my obsessions comes and go, but Duncan always remains in my top five. His voice is love. His songs are like poetry, and they run the gamut of topics from love to politics to consumerism. He speaks to a part of me. He makes it sing. Thus I always cherish him.
I am currently a little obsessed with Frank Turner. His songs are a bit more tongue in cheek and while the lyrics can be depressing the music itself is always upbeat.
The Weakerthans are always one of my constant obsessions because they are amazing. They touch a different part of me than Duncan does. They touch a sadder, more human part. They make me feel understood, which is also priceless. There's a blue quality to them that them, which might be confusing. I often think of music in colors. I also like lyrics. I don't care if you can't play more than three chords if you give me a singer with a voice that makes my soul shiver with lyrics that make my heart soar or fall. That probably comes back to my love of words.
Let's do a list of the top ten obsessions (in no particular order):
1. The Weakerthans
2. Jimmy Eat World
3. Frank Turner
4. Duncan Sheik
5. Barenaked Ladies
6. Mayday Parade
7. The Almost
8. Snow Patrol
9. Ingrid Michaelson
10. Safetysuit
