I'm currently researching the chemical prosperities of a number of naturally occurring gemstones in the hopes of being able to produce some lists for Paige. Namely, what she can and can't turn into thus far along with a list of ones that she's working on.
Diamond, which is composed of carbons bonded using all four of their valence electrons rather than only three (which makes graphite) is actually comparatively easy when you look at moonstone (KAlSi3O8). One of the problems I'm having is the number of stones that are made up of SiO2 but the densities are different.
Grrrr. Suddenly wishing that I had minored in chemistry, after all.

teza, I cannot think of a way to keep the Maze thread going. Do you mind if I have Betsy bow out with a longer version of a "See you later" post?

Date: 2005-08-26 12:45 am (UTC)I've explained it to myself such that she controls a layer of skin between her actual form and the outer layer she's shucking off to such a degree that she can not only rearrange the molecules but make all the atoms in that layer be carbon and then tell them to bond together in the proper way to make diamonds. But even this is gonna get over my head pretty damn fast. ;)
