Drabble for [livejournal.com profile] mizzmarvel for the previous meme. It got long and, well, not so much on point, but I sort of like it. I wrote it long hand during breaks and lunches at work.

1. Chase: Lasers

There are some comic books and some fictional characters that you just instantly adore. Then there are some that have to grow on you a while before you stop thinking of them as being inane and annoying. Runaways was a comic that I immediately loved, and I instantly gravitated to liking Gert because, well, there's a lot of her that reminds me of me. Plus she is just that awesome. Then there was Chase. I wasn't really sure what to think of Chase. He was annoying and pretty dumb. At least what we saw of him at the beginning. And then we started to see more. He grew on me. He's one of my favorites now, which means he's doomed to have terrible things continue to happen to him even though I can't bring myself to read Runaways before because it's less of the bad boyfriend that Gen 13 is and more like an evil ex-boyfriend who breaks your heart only to win you back and then break your heart all over again. Basically I stopped being able to take having my heart torn out over and over and gave up Runaways. The comic, not the characters. There's still a very strong Gert muse that very purposefully walks--never bounces or saunters or even strolls--through my head, and she loves Chase. And I adore Chase. This is just one of those beautiful, happy, quintesential Chase moments that reminds me of all the good times that Runaways and I had before it backed up its stuff and left me aching.

2. Mulder: Nerd

The X-Files might be my one true love television show. As much as I sort of detest David Duchovny's real lifestyle, which it's my place to judge but whatever, I will never, ever not adore Mulder. What can I say? He's smart, driven, insular and utterly, utterly broken. The dynamic between him and Scully was amazing. I spent years waiting for them to realize that every single one of us in the view world had realized from almost day one: that they were totally and completely in love. Mulder said it best, "You're my one in five billion." If there was ever a line to make your heart melt, there it is. And Scully, per the usual, brushed it off because, well, it's Mulder and Scully and that's the way it went in there world. I have a lot of X-Files icons. This one probably isn't my favorite of them all, but it might be my favorite one of Mulder. There he is all nerdy and believing in impossible things that are really and truly happening every single day for him, his glasses on, stuck in the basement, alone, no one wants him and no one takes him seriously, no one knows him and he doesn't want to be known. Not by them anyway. Not even by Scully for a long, long time. It's this perfect moment in time, though, because he's turning--in the episode he's turning toward Scully because it's the pilot and he's meeting her for the very first time although he's already read some of her published word--and his life is going to change. In this moment, his life is going to change. It's perfect while still conveying the fact that, yeah, nerd. Always and forever. Despite my protests to the contrary, I pretty much am more like Mulder.

3. STV: No Logic Train Here

So many people hate Star Trek: Voyager, and I can't understand why. Maybe I don't understand because I was never a fan of the original series or even of Next Gen. I started watching DS9 and then moved into STV. I didn't have a preconceived Star Trek history to fall back on other than a few movies that I had seen, which were all newer versus older. STV is my Star Trek door now and forever. I have my favorite pairings and episodes and novels. And I'll be honest. Tuvok isn't always one of my favorite characters. A lot of the time I find him borish and aggravating, but he gets some terrific lines. Plus it's always fun to see him forced into situations that you know have to be completely irking him, like almost every single interaction he ever has with Neelix. But I, like Janeway, derive enormous amounts of pleasure from his discomfort. Besides who better to be smug about asshatery than Tuvok.

4. Glee: Effing Love

I'm pretty sure this is the first Glee icon to grace my LJ, though it was likely closely followed by a Kurt one because, well, Kurt is my favorite character on the show. Santana and Brittany, however, are totally my favorite canon but unofficial couple. It's the perfect scene for them because Santana is pointedly not looking at Brittany, but Santana is very clearly the only thing that Brittany can see. Kurt might be the heart of the show in my eyes, but Brittany is the wide-eyed innocence that's accepts and loves and trusts unconditionally. She is sweet even when she's being mean. And when she loves it's with every single part of her even though a lot of times she's not aware that she's being used. Plus this icon is just so much fun that I couldn't pass it up.

5. Jono: My Hero

Anyone who has been in an X-Men-related RP with me knows that Jono and Paige are one of my OTPs. I can't help it. I'm destined to adore couples who never, ever seem to work out. Or who have horrible plot tragedies befall them. Many of you probably also know how skeevy I think it is that Paige and Warren got together. I like Warren. I really do. But this pairing is icky. It's not just an age thing, although he has got to be at least twenty years her senior if not a bit more even with the way comic time works. It's also the fact that Warren looks like he could be a Guthrie. His features mimic those of Sam and his wings and other powers just smack of Jay. So, in effect, Paige is sort of dating two of her brothers. It's gross. Not to mention that Jono is just way cooler. So Jono punches Warren and becomes my hero. Always and forever. Love ya, Sparky. Even when you're blue because I know it's not your fault.

Yesterday I was going to spend my day doing errands, cleaning, cooking, finishing up the taxes and redoing my user icons. Instead, I ended up getting a call from a friend so I went shopping with him. We ended up redoing his bathroom, going out to eat and then ended up at his apartment watching the Superbowl commercials and playing with the Flair application on Facebook. Then we decided we wanted to go see My Bloody Valentine in 3D. It was not the world's best movie by any standard although the end did surprise me a bit. There are flawed logic, as always in horror movies, and a lot of things were done purely for the 3D reaction. The 3D, however, was awesome. I could actually see it with the new glasses, which is something of a feat as my eyes never worked with the old ones so I'd be left just staring at a really fucked up screen going, "Well. Suck." We're already making plans to see Coraline in 3D if it comes out that way here because I refuse to see the Jonas Bros. movie even if it means 3D.

So today I have to try and get everything done that I wanted to do yesterday. Yay! I had been hoping to get some major RP time in, but that doesn't look likely. I guess I'll try and toss up some posts for them and see if anyone trusts me enough to take a scene. I've been pretty non-existant, which is my own fault.

Also! I need new X-Files icons. I'll have to restrain myself from looking for ones from the movie until after everything else is done. The movie and, well, everything else because I've been watching the series all the way through since I finally managed to get all nine seasons. Yay! Mulder and Scully love!
